All the best excuses
We have nil expertise or experience on personal tax and self-assessment, however while searching the HMRC Press Office for something equally exciting, we stumbled across this 2016 press release. It manages to cover yachts, wasps, dogs and wives leaving husbands for accountants and for no other good reasons than that it got our attention. We are easily distracted.
The annual deadline for self-assessment of personal income tax is approaching (31 Jan for tax year 2016-17). For those who like to live on the edge you have a couple of weeks to submit your return. Keep in mind that the last few days leading up to the deadline are typically blighted with HMRC system go-slows and log in problems – don’t say we didn’t warn you!
Our normal HMRC systems interest usually only extends to CHIEF and its replacement CDS; read about that here: https://goo.gl/CTWYZM
The 2016 HMRC press release is light relief from the usual gripping material we consume here. Read all of the best excuses here https://goo.gl/6T9ejh
We liked:
“My wife helps me with my tax return, but she had a headache for ten days” and “A wasp in my car caused me to have an accident and my tax return, which was inside, was destroyed”
