Director

Rob has specialist expertise in customs matters from an operational, efficiency, legal and compliance aspect. Prior to Clearlight Customs, Rob was a former operational manager in the customs and international trade field, with over 20 years of experience working for leading global corporations. Fanatical when evaluating complex processes, Rob has a keen analytical eye and the ability to translate customs complexities into practical solutions.

Over the years, there’s not much Rob hasn’t seen – from shipment distribution, hub and package sortation management to airline operations. He’s even represented clients in trade negotiations!

Rob’s other key skills include having a solid knowledge of import (CFSP), export (NES) and transit (NCTS) operations. He also has specialist expertise in Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) regulations and requirements.

Away from the business, Rob is a keen (long suffering) Derby County supporter, loves the sunshine and relaxed lifestyle in Tenerife, and has just decided in “middle-age” that it’s really time to try to get physically fit… a 5k ParkRun is the target without needing medical assistance at the end!

Helen Davey

Consultant

Helen’s background lays within a large US corporation, where she worked as a Customs Compliance Supervisor for 20 years. With a nous for preparing and evaluating the best procedures for customs clearance at gateways, Helen is a specialist in UK and international Post Clearance entries and monetary reclaims. This hunger for smooth customs processes and making sure all activities are conducted in a legal manner is of huge importance to Helen, whose aim is to always get it right from the very start.

Fluent in customs clearance languages, Helen’s understanding of legislation has opened doors with key Customs, Border Force and Security personnel. Helen has acted as an AEO manager for compliant accreditation and re-accreditation.

Helen’s key skills include setting up measures or audits for combating illegal, fraudulent and prohibited shipments. She has a detailed understanding of custom bodies and has organised and attended AICES, BIFA, JCCC, HMRC, UKBF, NCH, BIS, NCA ex SOCA seminars and workshops.

Helen played a key role during the London 2012 Olympics, developing simplifications surrounding this worldwide event and executing the process from beginning to end.

Helen retired from her full time role as founder and director of Clearlight Customs in November 2021 and now provides adhoc support as a consultant.
